I liked that they answer their phone almost immediately, and they are very nice and helpful when you purchase their products. What I didn't like: I passed the national part of the Texas Real Estate exam, and purchased the state part, which the website offers and so I went ahead and purchased it. But I believe their website is a little deceptive in that, they give you both national and state portions. The very frustrating part is that, in order to get to the state portion, you first have to go through all the lessons and exams of the national portion first, which is a lot! And you have to get a 90% score, otherwise, you have to test again for every module. Very frustrating. I just can't waste time, since my test is in 6 days, so this product was not for me. I asked for a refund and they said I should get it within the next 7 days. I hope they deliver, because it is not cheap, at least not for me. For anyone looking to prepare for both national and state portions of Texas, I think this might be a good option. I will update my review if I don't get my refund.

Just to make sure that you deliver what you offer. If you can offer a portion of the test (national or state), please do so. Not everyone will need both portions, and you offer the option to do national or state, or both.

That is all, and best of luck to you in your testing!

Van Ed's test prep was good. I thought it was summarized everything quite well with everything we learned throughout the course. I felt prepared going into the exams, and I passed both on my first attempt.

Frustrated Ex-student

I do not like anything about the current VanEd company. They are misrepresenting their address and phone number on their website and if you call the CO phone number, it has been disconnected.

VanEd is no longer a local, Colorado company. They are now 360training.com, based in Austin, TX, and their customer service and turnaround times are not what is promised on the VanEd website. Emails and Q&A are taking 48+ hours to turnaround. After 2 weeks of frustration and multiple calls/emails, I still have not been given access to the required reading materials (Principles of Real Estate Practice) and they want to charge me a 40% cancellation fee, even though I have not been able to effectively start the program.

Don't make the mistake that I did. Find somewhere else and save yourself a lot of time, money and aggravation.

I liked that it was easy to take courses online and the submission to TREC of completed courses at VanEd. Also, I enjoy the dashboard l.

Not sure any improvements are needed as an end user.

Vaned is very user friendly. Anytime you log in, the dashboard directs you to where you left off.

I’ve only trained once and the system was down. I’d like to take another training course in the near future. I can’t comment because I’m not fully trained and familiar with the software. I’d like to know when is the next training.

I was satisfied with the program. I thought it was a bit difficult at times only because English is my second language, but it was very manageable to get through. The curriculum was mainly based on live chats with good instructors, but the instructors took way too long to reply to any questions I had. Customer service, on the other hand, was phenomenal. They were available at any time of the day, and they would fix any issues I was having within minutes. It really was a great program and super affordable.

The test prep was the best part. I think that it did have all the necessary information, and it prepared me well for the state and national exams. In my opinion, it is really good, and I would have been lost without it.

I actually took longer than I was supposed because it was something I was doing on the side, but I liked it because I was able to take my time to do it on my own schedule. It was a bit boring but informative because of all the laws we needed to learn. I do wish there were voiceovers on the instructor videos because we never saw the instructor, so it was sometimes a bit of a drag to watch them. I would definitely suggest to print out the notes they have so that you can refer back to it. In the end, it is really going to help when it comes to the exams.

What do you like about VanEd?
I loved taking my prelicensing courses through VanEd! I have a super busy schedule and loved being able to take my classes whenever I had time. I really connected with the customer support team who was always there when I had questions. I was able to pass my exams the first time!! I will definitely be taking my prelicensing courses through VanEd now that I know what a great quality school they are! Thank you, VanEd!!

What are some things to improve upon?
I really enjoyed my courses. I can't think of anything that needs improvement.

Anything else you'd like to share with other agents?
Definitely watch out for their sales! They send out a lot of email blasts with good sale info and helpful blog posts, too!

I thought it was good. The information it provided was adequate, and it made me realize that I should read the question twice before answering it. That way, I don't miss any details on what it's asking.

Van Ed (Colorado)

S.M.

Being able to study online at my own pace was just the cherry on top. If you are considering this process, make sure to allocate time each day and create a set schedule for yourself. One thing I found a bit frustrating throughout the course was that we had to spend a certain amount of time on every page to progress onto another. I think it would really make the courses ten times better if they were to remove that detail to make it easier for their users.

I liked that it was online and that I was able to do it at my own pace. My suggestion for VanEd is to keep up with the recent updates and provide more information that will be on the exams. My suggestion for future agents is just take your time and ask questions. Also, make sure you take prep classes, the one I took really helped me prepare and pass my exams.

I wasn't really happy with it. I would suggest you take your time looking at your options. I mean, the curriculum was fine, it was just like reading out of the book, but it would've been a lot helpful if they would point out the specifics for the exam. I had to look at outside sources to study for my exam, and luckily it helped me pass the exam. Take your time and figure out which online program will be best for you.

Brion Fortune

Not everyone has the time for a classroom/brick and mortar setting for real estate education, so an online platform is best for a lot of people. VanEd's online courses are excellent. The training is easy to navigate, if needed, you can interact with course instructors, and VanEd keeps track of your continuing education credits. It's my go-to real estate school!

Gammy Sparkles

Van Ed Courses are as complex as you want, or as simple if you need. The information and links are there to go deeper. It is very convenient, and gives a true tracking record for compliance of required education! They have a large array of courses, and you will get as much as you want from them. While on-line is not for everyone, if you are really busy, this gives a great option! I recommend them!!!!!!! Jeany Rush (29 Years in RE)

The content of the CE class is fine. But...

Shaina Rukavina

The content of the CE class is fine. But the method of delivery is lacking. The classes are not classes; it is page after page of reading. There is so little visual interest to the pages and very little interaction with the programs that I found it incredibly difficult to complete the class as I could only stand to sit there and read like that on the computer for short while at a time before I was so bored I wanted to climb out of my skin. The classes are just as expensive as they are from other providers, but it has been my experience that other providers deliver the information in ways that are entertaining and interactive enough that it does not become torturous to get through the content. I would not recommend or purchase CE credits through VanEd again.

About VanEd

VanEd (aka Van Education Center) is a fully acclaimed online real estate School. Founded in 1997, it has been operating for more than 22 years. They have helped over 23,000 students attain their real estate licenses. Over 48,000 students have enrolled in their CE courses over the years.

Serving several states, VanEd ranks as one of the largest online real estate schools and one of the most trusted as well.

Quick Facts About VanEd

  • VanEd provides courses for real estate and appraisal professionals.
  • Some of the States that you can access their real estate courses include Colorado, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Florida, Missouri, South Dakota, and Washington
  • It is an online-based school, so no in-person classes are available
  • The school’s corporate headquarters are in Boulder, Colorado
  • The school holds two core beliefs when it comes to the education of its students. First, students should have control over the pace of learning. Secondly, they believe that real people, both instructors, and real estate experts, should be on hand to help the students.

Real estate courses at Van Ed

pexels-cleyder-duque-3981801Real estate pre-licensing (Broker and Salesperson)

If you want to practice real estate, you need to take a pre-licensing course. This course will introduce you to real estate and give you everything you need to get started. There is an exam offered by the state that tests your knowledge on the fundamentals of real estate, real estate math, and more. You sit for this exam after completing the required pre-licensing course. The topics and requisite credit hours differ from state to state.

For instance, in Texas, Van Ed provides the required six courses, each with 30 credit hours, which add up to 180 hours as required by TREC. The topics covered in this course include the Law of Agency & Contracts, Principles of Real Estate, Finance, and more.

Real Estate Exam Prep

The real estate exam consists of multiple-choice questions. Sounds like a walk in the park? Well, it’s not. And the stats reveal that many students fail on their first try. That’s why every most real estate schools offer some form of exam preparation course.

VanEd is no different. For instance, they have a general real estate exam prep sold separately. But when you purchase their pre-licensing course, you get two free exam prep courses.

Continuing Education Courses

CE courses are necessary before renewing your license. The school offers CE courses in real estate in more states than they do for their pre-licensing course. Required hours differ from one state to another (select your state here to learn more about the CE requirements for your state). It depends on the state, but typically, renewals come every two years.

Additional Courses

Appraisal: The school doubles as an online appraisal school with wide coverage. They offer everything that you require to become an appraiser trainee. They also offer appraisal CE courses.

Mortgage broker: They don’t offer mortgage broker education directly but have partnered with other companies to provide it.

Learning experience and mode of delivery at VanEd

By offering only online courses, VanEd has put a lot of work into developing interactive courses that don’t feel like reading real estate textbooks just uploaded online. Some of the ways they make this possible include:

  • Organizing the content around a very detailed outline.
  • Use of professional videos, infographics, and audio.
  • Quizzes to test out your knowledge after completing chapters. There are VOCAB matching exercises as well.
  • Instructors hold question-and-answer sessions.
  • Online field trips.
  • If you have a question, you can call or email your assigned instructor. They also offer support via live chat.

Reasons Students Choose Van Ed

pexels-elijah-o'donnell-40660411) Good exam preparation: In countless reviews, many students report passing their real estate exam on the first try with good results.

2) Excellent online curriculum: The platform has been described as easy to use, and it works on all devices.

3) Live support from knowledgeable instructors: Your questions pertaining to the content will be addressed by instructors approved by their respective real estate commissions.

4) Payment plans: Don’t have the cash to fully pay for your online course? You can start learning and pay later.

 5) Five-day trial: After reviewing many online schools, we can gladly tell you that very few offer trials to students. In this respect, VanEd excels. To top it off, you don’t have to submit a payment method or add a credit card to your account.

Downsides of VanEd

The complaint we hear most often is a similar one we hear about most real estate schools…VanEd teaches you enough to pass the real estate exam, but not the ins and outs of the topics you need to know to be a successful estate agent (like the best real estate website builders, the best real estate lead generation companies, or the best real estate CRMs).

The VanEd course covers the basics, but like most real estate courses lacks info about what to do once you’ve passed. Most notably, it doesn’t cover the best real estate software as you’re starting out, how to bring in buyer leads, or how to find the right real estate CRM (even if you’re looking for a free CRM tool). If you’re looking for more advanced topics like real estate adsbuilding your own real estate lead generation website, which real estate marketing tools you’ll need,  how to build a successful social media strategy, or even just real estate marketing ideas in general, you will need to complete those studies on your own.

VanEd FAQs

If you’re searching for a school that offers live classes, VanEd doesn’t provide this mode of delivery. Some innovative real estate schools have taken to providing live virtual courses, but the school has not explored this mode.

Not many states publish school pass rates but fortunately, VanEd operates in one of the states that makes this data publicly available. That is Texas where the school maintains an overall pass rate of 51.38%. They managed to have 218 students taking the salesperson exam:

https://www.trec.texas.gov/education/education-provider-exam-passage-rates-sales-agents-and-brokers/

VanEd offers prelicensing in these states:

  • Colorado – Salesperson
  • Oklahoma – Salesperson & Broker
  • Nebraska – Salesperson & Broker
  • Texas – Salesperson
