About Bob Hogue School of Real Estate
Is Florida the best place to start a real estate career? Lots of people think so. Florida had the second-highest number of agents across the country in 2017. There were about 173,000 realtors in the state, with California having the most agents.
If you want to become an agent, you’ll need pre-licensing training. There are many schools to consider in the state, over 200 if you’re counting. Bob Hogue Real Estate trains lots of agents in Tampa, enjoys a reasonably good reputation, and even occasionally appears in local news coverage. Bob Hogue, the founder, has had the privilege of training a lot of agents in Florida. And there are many reasons to choose the school he started, including the great instructors, flexible hours, affordable rates for in-person classes, and more. With few complaints, it’s a good school to enroll in.
What you might not know is that they also offer continuing education to sales associates and real estate brokers. They have expanded their education offering to also train real estate appraisers and community association managers.
With real estate schools, you’ll find online-only institutions, and schools that offer both classroom & online modes of delivery. Bob Hogue fits into the latter category.
Bob Hogue School History
If you think that the school is named after an actual person, you have hit the nail on the head. Robert L. Hogue, aka Bob, begun his real estate career in 1974 and ventured into teaching real estate in 1978. But it was not until 1987 that he established the Bob Hogue School of Real Estate. It served students in the Tampa area and has grown to become the area’s largest.
In 2015 alone, about 29,000 people entered into the real estate field, prompting the school to add more locations as more and more people were signing up for courses than expected.

Which courses does the school provide?
Bob Hogue Real Estate Sales License
The state dictates that aspiring agents have to complete a 63-hour course, which Bob Hogue provides via online or classroom delivery.
Cram Course
State exams are notoriously difficult despite being multiple-choice. You need to be fully prepared, and thankfully the school offers a cram course that boosts your chances of passing the exam. There are custom quizzes around specific topics. You can take the course both online or in-person. The school also offers an in-person weekend cram course.
Bob Hogue 14 hour continuing education
The CE course features topics on core law and ethics, and completing it will fulfill the credit requirements to have your license renewed. You can obtain your CE education from Bob Hogue, either online or in-person.
Broker pre-licensing
A 72-hour course designed to teach real estate associates everything they need to sit for the broker license exam.
Prep Course
Like the sale associates prep course, it’s main features include practice questions and custom quizzes.
Post licensing education
Brokers have to take a 60-hour post-licensing course that’s split into two parts: There is a course on broker management, and the second part covers real estate investment.
Reactivation education
If you have an inactive license for more than one year but not more than two years, you’re required to obtain state-approved reactivation education. It’s a 28-hour course.
CAM certification
If you take this course, you’ll become a community association manager with the task of managing condominiums, planned communities, etc.
What students like about the Bob Hogue School of Real Estate

- Positive reviews – The school enjoys good ratings, and many people have said that they would recommend it to their friends.
Drawbacks of Bob Hogue
- The school doesn’t have any demo courses or trial.

The complaint we hear most often is a similar one we hear about most real estate schools…Bob Hogue teaches you enough to pass the real estate exam, but not the ins and outs of the topics you need to know to be a successful estate agent (like real estate website builders, the best real estate lead generation companies, or the best real estate CRMs).
The Bob Hogue course covers the basics, but like most real estate courses lacks info about what to do once you’ve passed. Most notably, it doesn’t cover the best real estate software as you’re starting out, how to bring in buyer leads, or how to find the right real estate CRM (even if you’re looking for a free CRM tool). If you’re looking for more advanced topics like real estate ads, building your own real estate lead generation website, which real estate marketing tools you’ll need, how to build a successful social media strategy, or even just real estate marketing ideas in general, you will need to complete those studies on your own.
Bob Hogue School of Real Estate FAQs
The school has been deemed affordable in many online reviews. Their classroom courses are competitively priced, going for about $300 for the pre-license course. The online course costs less at about $250.
Broker courses are more costly, at about $400 for the pre-license course. Check with the website for up-to-date and accurate pricing.
It is hard to pinpoint pass rates for schools because FL DBPR doesn’t publish individual school pass rates. However, pass rates in Florida range from 40% to 56%. For instance, in April 2018, the pass rate for sales associates hovered at 46% for first-time test takers.
You might take less than two weeks to complete the pre-licensing course, and with the online course that’s self-paced, it might take you a few months or few days.
You have to pass the final exam provided by the school before you sit for the state exam.

I like that you can go at your own pace and that everything is online. There's no textbook and things like that. Of course, you can study on your own with a notebook, but I wasn't used to taking a class with no books. If I could have done it all over again, I probably would have done it in a class room. It's nice being able to be on your own schedule, but it's also hard to be motivated and find the time.

All I liked was the instructor for my last class. I think his name was Joey Torres or something. I felt like they didn't train us to take the test....and we spent a lot of time going over additional information that was nowhere like the test. I studied for all the wrong things.

You can go online and the classes were priced well. Try it out - it's a great school. You'll be prepared for your exam. I actually went to class, but you can do it online though as well. I think you can do both if you want.

I haven't finished it yet, I'm still working on it. Looking back, I would have rather done the classroom option. There is so much material, and the class doesn't really tell you what's gonna be on the test, which isn't fun!

If you’re looking for a real estate school to get your license, I would highly recommend this school. I did my sales agent classes with them in the classroom and my daughter did the online course. Both were excellent. I just did my post licensing class with them too, in the classroom. The instructor, Michael Schnippering, was excellent. He really prepares you for the test and has a real passion for what he does. He injects some great humor into his classes too, makes the learning fun. He makes sure everyone understands the subject matter and is very thorough with his teaching and instruction. He has the patience of a saint, and just really makes sure everyone in the class understands everything. Plus, he has some great real estate stories that bring to life the topic he’s teaching. Really helps you understand the business. This school was highly recommended to me when I was looking to go to real estate class, and I can honestly do the same for anyone looking to get into the business. Bob Hogue school of real estate has been a very positive experience all around. Five stars, especially for Michael, our teacher.

The school was great to communicate with and extremely eager to offer classes and aid. They followed up after every signup, and every member of the administrative team is cheerful. The educator, Joe Troy, has true experience in both the field and with providing students with the knowledge to succeed. He uses a plethora of teaching styles to make sure the whole class understands core concepts. The program for sales associate licensing was precisely what was needed to succeed the school exam and prepare for future stages.

What can I say!? A fantastic school! I just passed my state exam and couldn’t be happier! Michael Schnippering was my teacher and I give him an A+++! He mixed book text with explanations and personal experience to truly induce my understanding. Even on the state exam his explanations were pertinent, unveiling the answers I needed. I am thrilled. This time two weeks ago I was unaware of anything pertaining to real estate. Class in a week. Test 4 days after class. Passed first time. Thank you Bob Hogue School! And thank you Michael!

I took the 63 hour classroom course. Joe Troy was the Trainer. I say trainer because a teacher fills in the knowledge gap & a trainer acquires certain competencies. This is a cram course where the trainer just unloads a ton of information in a short period of time and leaves no room for understanding. I suppose if you're someone that did very well academically in high school or college you might do well. The majority of the class had taken the 63 hour course prior, failed and came back with a partner or spouse. As time drew near for the class exam I contacted the school because they offered tutors. I was told that tutors are only available for those taking the state exam and not the classroom exam. $50 dollars per hour. This makes no sense to me since you have to pass the classroom exam in order to take the state exam. I end up withdrawing from the course and knowing what i know now i would never have enrolled. Nobody ever followed up after i withdrew. I don't feel the school nor trainer is concerned on whether applicants make it or not. I bet if the trainer was given a bonus compensation for students that pass just maybe trainers would truly care and see to it that students have full understanding and do better at filling in that knowledge gap.

I went to the Main location in St. Petersburg. I took the day course with Joe. I went in with no solid understanding of real estate. Joe made the material interesting. I passed the class course on the 1st try. I did take the weekend review with Jan, 6 months later and passed the state exam. Both instructors have a different style. Im grateful for them both.
