About Maryland Real Estate Academy
Are you hoping to become a licensed real estate salesperson in Maryland? Attending a real estate school is required where you’ll learn the fundamentals of real estate so that you can sit for the state and national portions of the real estate exam. Finding a reputable school is paramount because you need proper preparation. And Maryland Real Estate Academy is one of about 40 or so licensed schools that offer courses approved by the MREC.

Maryland Real Estate Academy Courses
Salesperson pre-licensing
Before becoming eligible for the real estate salesperson license, you must undergo 60 hours of approved instruction. The commission has approved different modes of delivery, including home study, remote access satellite, etc.
At Maryland real estate Academy, the primary mode of delivery is classroom instruction. You learn about the fundamentals of real estate practices and principles. Everything is taught in class with no need for field trips or internships.
Before becoming eligible for the program you must be:

- Show that you have a high school diploma or an equivalent certificate.
You will learn about the definition of real property, how title is transferred, about real estate brokerages, financing, and more. You must also complete a three hour topic on ethics.
Continuing education
CE classes are mostly online, which means that they will be offered through the CE Shop. Students who complete the pre-licensing course at the school are also rewarded with free CE courses and occasional discounts.
By taking these courses, you fulfill the requirement of 15 clock hours of education required before renewing the real estate license every two years from the date you received it.
Learning Experience at Maryland Real Estate Academy
One of the most important considerations to be on the lookout for is the quality of the learning environment. Maryland’s academic facilities include a spacious classroom hall. They provide students with calculators; a restroom that’s ADA compliant; kitchen to warm up your meals; and wireless internet if you choose to bring your laptop.
During class, the instructor delivers the material using PowerPoint slides with points further illustrated on whiteboards. Each student gets a class grade that reflects their performance on quizzes, assignments, participation, attendance, and more.

You will need to pass the school exams, which include a final exam and midterm. Attendance is also a must so that you can fulfill the required clock hours.
The Maryland Real Estate Academy specifically targets busy professionals who may want to launch their careers in real estate. That’s why they ask you to dedicate 3 hours per day for only two days each week. So by completing 6 hours of classroom instruction per week, it will take you ten weeks to complete the course.
It’s worth pointing out that Maryland has one of the toughest real estate exams of any state. Now, this does not mean that you’ll not pass it. Rather it implies that you need more exam preparation.
For the National portion of the exam from December 2018 to November 2019, the school had 72 students with only 21 passing, which brought the pass rate to 29.17%.
Pass rates for the state portion of the exam were similar for the duration. What’s worth pointing out is that the pass rate for the school was way below the average, which was at 44.87% for the state portion of the exam. You can view the pass rates here.
